Fresh From the Art Room

There were some technical difficulties with my webpage, but we're back online!  Here is a huge update from the art room!

Since our last update...
5th grade created Japanese Notan designs while learning about symmetry, positive and negative space, and contrast.
4th grade created self-portraits while learning about proportion and value.
3rd grade learned about texture and pattern while creating fall leaf collages, and they also learned about color value while creating oil pastel pumpkins.
2nd grade learned about texture while creating fall trees.  They also reviewed lines, patterns, and warm and cool colors while creating abstract landscapes.
1st grade reviewed lines and texture while exploring the illustrations from "Where the Wild Things Are."
Kindergarten created cities while reviewing lines and shapes.  Every grade has also been learning all about colors!  Kindergarten learned about the primary colors while creating color wheels and some primary "squish art."  They also created secondary color pumpkins and dinosaurs!
As I mentioned above, everyone has been learning all about colors!  Here are some of the color projects we've been working on...
5th- Intermediate colors [and color wheels] and analogous color scheme paintings
4th- Complementary color wheels
3rd- Primary and secondary color wheel hot air balloons
2nd- Primary and secondary ocean color wheels
1st- Turtle color wheel using primary and secondary colors
K- Mouse Paint color wheels and primary squish art

What brand of tempera cakes did you use? and also, I'd like to know more about the "placemats" shown underneath the paintings.. do you keep those in place for every project? or do you store them and just use for painting? are they cardboard?
